The lifeless body of a newborn, discovered abandoned in ADh. Dhigurah, has been repatriated to Male’ following a thorough autopsy conducted abroad.
The infant’s remains were sent to India for examination on December 15. A police spokesperson revealed on Sunday that the body had returned to Male’ City after the autopsy was completed on Friday.
The fully developed female newborn, weighing approximately three kilograms, was tragically found lifeless within a plastic bag amid waste gathered from residences and businesses in Dhigurah on December 3.
The infant was discovered with the umbilical cord still intact, indicating that she had been abandoned shortly after birth.
In connection with the incident, a 30-year-old Sri Lankan woman, presumed to be the mother, was apprehended at Velana International Airport on the same day while awaiting a flight to Colombo. The woman, employed at a guesthouse in Dhigurah, remains in custody pending the outcome of her trial.
