Active-Duty Police Officer Found Dead Underwater After Going Missing From Patrol Launch

An active-duty police officer who went missing from a patrol vessel early this morning was found dead underwater following a search operation, authorities have confirmed.
The deceased has been identified as Senior Sergeant Ahmed Asif of the Maldives Police Service.
According to police, Senior Sergeant Asif was on duty aboard Police Launch 57 when he went missing during the early hours of this morning. Police said a search operation was launched immediately after officers discovered he was missing.
During the operation, search teams located the officer underwater. He was recovered and transported to AA. Mathiveri Health Centre, where medical personnel confirmed he was already deceased upon arrival.
In a statement, the Maldives Police Service expressed condolences over the incident and said it is providing all necessary support to the officer’s family and colleagues.
Authorities have not released details about the circumstances surrounding the incident or how the officer entered the water. Police said the case is under investigation.
While the Maldives Police Service has not officially disclosed the nature of the operation, local media reports have suggested officers were engaged in a drug-related operation at the time of the incident. However, this has not been independently confirmed by the authorities.
