Aeroflot begins operations from Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport

Aeroflot has commenced operations from Terminal 1 at Velana International Airport (VIA), marking another milestone in the transition to the new passenger terminal.

A special ceremony was held at the airport to commemorate Aeroflot’s move to Terminal 1, with the Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto, Hussain Fahmy, attending as the chief guest. 

The event was also attended by Aeroflot’s General Manager for the Maldives, Evgeny Ratushnyy, the Consul General of the Russian Federation in the Maldives, Aleksei Idamkin, and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, along with members of MACL’s executive management.

As part of the ceremony, Aeroflot’s check-in counters at the new terminal were officially opened, and departing passengers were presented with gifts. Passengers arriving on the inaugural Aeroflot flight to operate from Terminal 1 were welcomed with traditional cultural performances.

Aeroflot, the flag carrier and largest airline of Russia, is the 39th airline to transition its operations to the new terminal at VIA. MACL has stated that it aims to complete the transition of all airlines to Terminal 1 by the end of 2025.
