The event, now in its 10th year, serves as a platform for recognising individuals who uphold journalistic standards and contribute significantly to the profession.

This year, MMC received a total of 63 nominations spanning 12 categories, including investigative journalism, social issues, legal and judicial matters, business, sports, photojournalism, video journalism, graphics and illustrations, as well as awards for the best feature, most promising journalist, and journalist of the year.

While no awards were granted in the broadcasting and graphics/illustrations categories due to insufficient marks and lack of nominations, respectively, the Journalist of the Year category saw three nominees evaluated on criteria such as education, experience, and public votes. The nominees collectively garnered over 35,000 votes via SMS.

Aside from the coveted award, a special commemorative plaque was bestowed upon Saaid Ahmed for his outstanding contributions to sports news journalism. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to two esteemed journalists, Abdulla Rameez and Ahmed Zahir (Hiriga).

MMC President Ahmed Mustafa revealed plans to introduce new award categories for the next year. These include the student journalism award, community news award, and special coverage award.
