The Maldives has completed arrangements to facilitate night flights at all airports across the country, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced.
The installation of a light system at Sh. Funadhoo Airport marks the final step in ensuring that all airports are ready to operate flights during the night.
The country currently has 13 domestic airports and five international airports. Introducing night-landing facilities at all airports is a key national target set by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, aimed at providing equitable access to basic transport services across the Maldives.
With airports now equipped for night operations, flight schedules can be better managed, reducing delays and cancellations, and enhancing public confidence in domestic air travel, the ministry said. The new facilities will also allow medical evacuations to be conducted at any time.
