All Maldivian Pilgrims Reported Safe During Umrah In Saudi Arabia, Says Gov’t

All Maldivian pilgrims currently undertaking the Umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia are reported to be generally well, according to the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed.

Over 7,000 Maldivian pilgrims have travelled to Saudi Arabia on the voluntary pilgrimage during December and January.

One pilgrim who fell ill while on the pilgrimage and was admitted to hospital is expected to return to the Maldives on 10 January, with assistance from the national airline Maldivian and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The first group of pilgrims during the December–January period departed the Maldives on 21 December 2025, comprising 262 individuals. The final group is scheduled to depart on 9 January 2026, with 298 pilgrims.
