Segments 1 and 2 of Ameenee Magu have officially reopened to traffic following the completion of critical repair and asphalt paving works carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The road restoration project, awarded to MTCC on June 15 by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, targeted key sections plagued by road deterioration. Upgrades included subgrade preparation, aggregate base course compaction, asphalt laying, and road marking, notably around the four corners near the Voice of Maldives area.
MTCC stated that the newly surfaced stretch was fully cleared of construction debris prior to Sunday’s reopening to ensure road safety. With Segments 1 and 2 complete, repair crews are scheduled to transition to Segment 3, spanning from Izzuddin Magu to Koarukendi Hingun, to further enhance traffic flow across Malé.
Meanwhile, major progress has been achieved under the Boduthakurufaanu Magu paving and modernisation initiative, where full development works, stretching from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the North Harbour segment, have now been completed.
Concurrently, groundwork has begun for the upcoming western outer ring road development project. As part of these initial efforts, a section of the West Park area has been temporarily closed to facilitate the installation of a new stormwater drainage system.
