The Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources has opened applications for the second course of this year’s Marine Hatchery Skills Development Programme.
The programme, organised in collaboration with the Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI), aims to develop technical skills in reef fish aquaculture and support individuals interested in the mariculture sector.
The 14-day training course will be held at the MMRI Research and Training Facility in Kaafu Atoll, Maniyafushi, from 8 August to 20 August. A total of 15 participants will be selected for the programme.

According to the ministry, the course will provide participants with basic technical training in marine hatchery operations and reef fish aquaculture.
Interested applicants must submit a completed application form along with a copy of their national identity card to MMRI before 2:00 pm on 16 July. Applications may also be submitted by email.
The ministry said that if applications exceed the available 15 places, participants will be selected based on the order in which applications are received.
Participants will stay in Maniyafushi for the duration of the course. MMRI will arrange transport between Malé and Maniyafushi, as well as accommodation and meals for those selected.
The programme forms part of ongoing efforts to develop local expertise in aquaculture and strengthen capacity within the fisheries sector.
