The approval of Ministers in President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu’s cabinet has faced a setback, being referred back to the committee. The delay stems from the failure to submit the mandate of the ministries for parliamentary approval.
The Committee on Approval of the Cabinet of Ministers, presided over by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, scheduled the report for today’s session, sparking a comprehensive debate among the members.
During the deliberations in the third session of Parliament, Thulhaadhoo MP Hisaan Hussain highlighted a systemic issue, emphasising that the government had not forwarded the mandates of the ministries to the parliament for clarification.
The Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Aslam, deemed this matter a question of order and, after confirming the unmet requirements with Rasheed Hussain, decided to refer the report back to the committee.
Simultaneously, Speaker Aslam announced the pending vote on the extension of the session today. Although it marks the last day of the third term of 2023, Speaker Aslam expressed his intent to conduct a vote on the ministers’ approval within this term.
