The Maldivian Foreign Ministry has reported that Bangladesh has reversed its decision to temporarily halt on-arrival visas for travellers.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the Ministry issued a travel advisory informing Maldivians that the Bangladeshi government had decided to suspend on-arrival visas from 15 January to 15 February. The measure was reportedly part of efforts to strengthen security ahead of the country’s upcoming parliamentary elections.
In an update on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry confirmed that the Bangladeshi government had reversed its decision, and on-arrival visas would now be issued to Maldivian travellers as usual.
A significant number of Maldivian students study in Bangladesh, with families frequently travelling to visit them. Additionally, Maldivian business owners regularly travel to the country to procure goods.
