State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has stated that damage to a high-voltage cable during road construction work caused a power outage affecting several residential towers in Hulhumalé Phase II, with electricity restored after more than four hours.

The outage began at around 14:00 yesterday, disrupting power supply across multiple areas in the second phase of Hulhumale’. State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) stated at approximately 14:30 that the issue stemmed from a technical fault and was under investigation.

According to STELCO, the outage affected Hiyaa Towers 5, 6 and 7, Vinares 10, Amaan Dhoadhi Towers 12 to 16, Amaan Udhares Towers 5 and 6, as well as the MPL residential towers.

The company later confirmed that the disruption was caused by a high-voltage cable being damaged during ongoing road construction activities.

This is the second such incident reported in Hulhumale’ Phase II this month. On 12 April, several towers experienced power outages lasting more than eight hours after a main cable was damaged during construction work.

STELCO has held discussions with the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) to identify a permanent solution to the repeated outages in the area.
