The launch makes Chongqing Airlines the fourth Chinese carrier to establish routes to the Maldives, following Beijing Capital Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, and Sichuan Airlines. Earlier in February, Xiamen Airlines operated chartered flights between Male and China.
In addition to these four Chinese airlines, Hong Kong’s flagship carrier has also introduced direct flights to the Maldives. The entry of Chongqing Airlines into this market is anticipated to significantly bolster Chinese tourist arrivals in the Maldives.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, China currently constitutes the largest tourist market for the Maldives, with more than 113,000 Chinese travelers recorded as of June 22nd.
