City Council Delays Eid Decorations Removal Upon Public Request

The mayor of Male’ City, Mohamed Muizzu, has announced that the removal of Eid lights will be postponed upon the request of numerous individuals residing outside the city for various reasons. The city council has decided to delay the dismantling of the vibrant lights and decorations that were installed across the city to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha.

Mayor Muizzu made this announcement in response to the considerable interest expressed by many people who wished to witness the festive scenes during the Eid holidays. 

Taking to Twitter, the mayor highlighted that numerous individuals who had traveled abroad for diverse purposes during the Eid holidays had inquired about the possibility of experiencing the Eid lights upon their return. Initially, the city council had planned to remove the lights and decorations starting today, July 2nd.

However, considering the significant interest shown by a multitude of individuals, Mayor Muizzu has decided to postpone the removal of the lights and decorations to the weekends of July 7th and 8th. 

The city council had adorned the city streets with a total of 2,224 lights, featuring 22 unique designs, along major thoroughfares such as Boduthakurufaanu magu, Majeedhee magu, and Sosun magu. In addition to the lights, the city council had installed “Eid Mubarak” signs and designs to embellish specific areas of the city.

Mayor Muizzu, while lighting the ceremonial lights, emphasized the fact that Maldives is a predominantly Muslim nation, with Male’ City being the ruling island. The city council’s efforts to decorate the streets in celebration of various occasions have garnered praise and appreciation from many residents.

As part of their commitment to the Strategic Action Plan for the current term, the fourth-term city council is diligently working towards achieving the goal of creating a captivating Male’ City. The decoration of the streets in relation to different festivities marks another step forward in fulfilling this objective.
