The illuminations were unveiled during a ceremony held at Jumhooree Maidan last night. Mayor Muizzu led the event, lighting the lights to mark the beginning of the Eid festivities.
Expressing his sentiments, Mayor Muizzu highlighted that Maldives is a predominantly Muslim country, and Male’ City stands as a prominent hub for the Muslim community. He emphasized that while Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr are the two most significant occasions for Muslims, other important dates are also adorned with vibrant lights.
Mayor Muizzu asserted that celebrating the two Eids in a splendid manner should be a top priority. Consequently, the City Council made the decision to decorate the city with lights, inspired by the modern practices observed in certain Islamic countries.
Extending his warm wishes, Mayor Muizzu greeted the citizens and visitors of Male’ City, hoping that Eid al-Adha would bring happiness to all. The Mayor expressed his desire for a joyous celebration for both the residents and the visitors of the city.
