City Council Urges Public to Remove Vehicles From Alimas Carnival Stage Area by Tonight

Malé City Council has asked vehicle owners to remove vehicles parked around the Alimas Carnival stage area by 11:30pm tonight to allow dismantling work to begin on the structure.

The council said the steel truss structure built over the stage on the eastern side of Malé has deteriorated, with parts rusting, sustaining damage and beginning to fall. The structure will be dismantled to address safety risks to pedestrians and vehicles entering and leaving the area.

Owners, drivers and caretakers of vehicles currently parked in the area have been asked to clear the space before 23:30 on 25 August and keep the area clear until the work is completed.

The council has also advised pedestrians and vehicles not to enter the Carnival stage area while the dismantling work is underway.
