The CMDA is an independent statutory body established under the Maldives Securities Act 2/2006. It regulates and develops the capital market, licenses securities market intermediaries such as brokers and stock exchanges, and supervises the Maldives Retirement Pension Scheme.
The authority is also responsible for regulating the disclosure of financial statements, overseeing annual general meetings of listed companies and supervising the securities market. It has enforcement powers to address improper conduct in securities trading and practices that could undermine confidence in the capital market.
