The Maldives Customs Service has seized more than 1,100 vape cartridges and several vape devices that were concealed inside a shipment of food products imported into the country by sea.
According to Customs, the items were discovered during a special operation carried out at the Male’ Commercial Harbour on 14 and 15 June.
During inspections of incoming shipments, officers found 1,108 vape cartridges hidden inside cans of Mr. Potato brand potato chips and packets of chocolate powder. Customs also recovered 27 vape devices during the operation.
The seized items have been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway into the attempted smuggling of the prohibited products.
Customs stated that it continues to strengthen enforcement efforts to prevent the import of prohibited and illegal goods into the Maldives. The authority said such operations remain an important part of its efforts to detect and stop smuggling activities at the country’s borders.
