The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has extended the deadline to apply for higher education scholarships under the Zakat Fund, both in the Maldives and overseas.

The original application deadline of 15 May has been pushed to 29 May, providing applicants with additional time to complete and submit their documents.

As part of the updated application process, the Ministry has also announced that the Higher Education Scholarship Application Form no longer requires a stamp from the Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA). Applicants may instead submit the form along with MQA’s official response to their Application for Recognition of the Intended Programme.

A total of 50 scholarships are being offered through the Zakat Fund this year. Of these, 20 are allocated for study within the Maldives, while 30 are designated for international study. Overseas opportunities include placements in Malaysia, Brunei, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and countries within the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC). Seventeen of these international opportunities are specifically available in Malaysia and Brunei.

Of the 30 international scholarships, 13 have been classified as special scholarships for higher education. These include programmes at institutions such as Al-Azhar University in Egypt, Medina University, Qasim University, Umm Al-Qura University, Abha University and King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia, in addition to opportunities in selected SAARC countries.

One specialist training opportunity is also being offered for advanced studies in fields such as urology, urological surgery, paediatric neurology and neurology.

Furthermore, the Ministry has announced 10 stipend opportunities for students pursuing Islamic studies, including Sharia, Al-Qadha, Tafseer, Hadith, Uloom al-Quran, Arabic, Usooluddin, and other related subjects. These stipends are intended to support expenses not covered by the respective institutions.
