Dharumavantha Hospital has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Children’s Hospital of Soochow University in China, aiming to enhance paediatric surgical care services in the Maldives.
The Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), which serves as the main government healthcare facility, described the agreement as a significant step towards improving specialised medical services for children. According to IGMH, the MoU reflects a shared commitment to advancing healthcare in the country and is expected to facilitate collaboration in areas such as medical expertise, training, and knowledge exchange.

The agreement also comes as part of broader cooperation between the Maldives and China in the healthcare sector. The Maldivian government is currently working with China to develop a new 100-bed tertiary hospital in Villimalé, further strengthening the healthcare infrastructure in the country.
