Dive Club Maldives Celebrates PADI Women’s Dive Day with All-Women Community Dive

Dive Club Maldives hosted a community diving event for PADI Women’s Dive Day 2026, bringing together 15 women for two dives aimed at encouraging greater local participation in scuba diving and strengthening awareness of the Maldives’ marine environment.

The event was held last Saturday, with the dive centre organising a raffle on social media that selected 10 women from both the local and expatriate communities to participate. A total of 15 divers took part in the event, supported by female instructors and a boat crew.

Sujuaan Gasim (Suju), Marketing and Project Coordinator at Dive Club Maldives, said the event was organised as part of the centre’s efforts to engage with the local community and encourage more Maldivians, particularly women, to become familiar with the sea.

The participants completed two dives at Maagiri Point and Lankan Manta Point. The Maagiri Point dive included a photoshoot and encounters with eagle rays, while the second dive at Lankan Manta Point saw participants encounter four to five manta rays and blacktip reef sharks.

Suju said around 95 per cent of the participants were locals, highlighting the importance of increasing Maldivian participation in activities connected to the marine environment.

“Most of our tourism and fisheries depend on the sea. If Maldivians do not know about the sea, they will not know how to protect it,” he said. 

Dive Club Maldives said the event was organised to coincide with PADI Women’s Dive Day, an initiative aimed at promoting women’s participation in diving.

In a social media post, the dive centre thanked the female instructors, boat crew, media teams and participants who contributed to the event, describing it as a community event that helped introduce more people to scuba diving.
