DOIE Concludes Teacher Capacity Building Training Program

The Department of Inclusive Education (DOIE) recently concluded the teacher capacity-building training program. As part of the Indian Grant Assistance Scheme, the program, held in Bangalore, India, spanned 10 days and aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of 21 teachers from three schools. The objective was to equip them with effective strategies for teaching students with learning disabilities.

The training sessions covered a wide range of topics, with a particular focus on fostering inclusive approaches for students on the autism spectrum. Teachers were encouraged to reshape their thinking and create a supportive and engaging learning environment for all students.

The training incorporated inclusive teaching strategies, intervention techniques, and the development of inclusive lesson plans based on the principles of Universal Design for Learning. By utilizing these strategies, teachers were taught how to effectively cater to the individual learning needs of students with disabilities.

A significant aspect of the program revolved around behavioral modification strategies for students with disabilities. Participants were provided with innovative solutions and technologies to create an environmentally friendly learning space that caters to the needs of all students. Moreover, the program emphasized the importance of supporting students with physical disabilities, promoting accessibility, and encouraging their active participation in educational activities.

As part of the training, participants had the opportunity to visit various educational campuses in India. These visits provided valuable insights and practical observations of students with disabilities in a mainstream setting. Such firsthand experiences can contribute to a better understanding of inclusive education practices.
