EC to Place 604 Ballot Boxes for Presidential Election

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has made preparations for the upcoming presidential election by announcing the placement of 604 ballot boxes. The decision was taken in an effort to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process for the citizens of the Maldives.
According to ECM, the distribution of the ballot boxes will be as follows: 61 boxes will be allocated for residents of Male’ City, 77 boxes for atoll residents living in Male’ City, and 13 boxes will be placed in eight countries.

It should be noted that the locations of polling stations may be subject to change depending on the number of registered voters in each location. Additionally, the number of ballot boxes may also be adjusted during the re-registration process.
To cater to the voting needs of other areas, ECM will be placing 39 ballot boxes in Hulhumale’, 10 boxes in Villimale’, 319 boxes in the atolls, 78 in resorts, and five in prisons.
Furthermore, the electoral body will extend its reach to overseas Maldivians by placing 13 ballot boxes in various countries, including India, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and Japan.
The re-registration period for the presidential election will be open from July 16 to August 5. The deadline for online re-registration is July 29, while physical forms can be submitted until August 5.
The presidential election is scheduled to take place on September 9, with a possible second round on September 30. The total eligible voting population for this election is 282,672 voters.
