The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has disclosed that MVR 44 million will be distributed from the state budget among six political parties, in accordance with the provisions of the Political Parties Act.
Under the Political Parties Act, parties with a membership base of at least 10,000 are deemed eligible to receive financial allocations from the state budget, with the distribution being proportional to their respective membership figures.
The total sum allocated represents 0.01% of the overall budget sanctioned by the parliament for the fiscal year. The ECM has clarified that these allocations have been determined based on the number of members reported at the time of budget approval.
The breakdown of the allocations is as follows:
- Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP): MVR 15.1 million
- Adhalaath Party (AP): MVR 2.5 million
- Jumhooree Party (JP): MVR 5.3 million
- Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM): MVR 10.4 million
- Maldives Development Alliance (MDA): MVR 2.4 million
- People’s National Congress (PNC): MVR 8 million
It is noteworthy that during the budget approval, funds were allocated to six parties with a minimum membership of 10,000. However, the ECM has since identified that both the MDA and Adhalaath Party currently have memberships falling below this threshold.
