ECM Conducts Special Briefing for International Monitors

The Election Commission of the Maldives (ECM) hosted a specialised briefing session for international monitors and observers tasked with overseeing the forthcoming parliamentary election.

During the session, ECM disclosed that a total of 45 monitors and observers had been designated to actively supervise the parliamentary election slated for April 21.

Representatives from various nations, including India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Georgia, Thailand, Russia, Azerbaijan, the Philippines, Turkey, Bhutan, and Cambodia, will be present at the polling stations.

Former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Dr. Shahabuddin Yaqoob Quraishi, has been appointed as the Chief Observer for the team. He articulated hopes for a transparent and equitable election process, urging maximum participation from voters in selecting their parliamentary representatives.

ECM further stated that over 6,000 individuals will be actively engaged as observers, monitors, and representatives during the parliamentary election. This figure comprises 2,495 observers, 4,614 monitors, and 1,816 representatives.
