ECM Initates Delivery of Polling Equipment Underway Across Maldives

The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has initiated the crucial process of dispatching essential equipment to polling stations ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Speaking on behalf of the Election Commission, Member Hassan Zakaria confirmed that the distribution of materials commenced earlier today. Notably, the transportation of goods to various atolls and islands, including Alif Alif, Alif Dhaalu, Vaavu, Meemu, and Faafu Atoll, is being conducted via maritime channels.

Furthermore, air transport has been employed to deliver supplies to Thaa, Laamu, Gaafu Alif, Gaafu Dhaalu, Fuvahmulah, and Addu City. Zakaria assured that all necessary ballot papers and equipment would reach the designated islands in these provinces by 05:30 pm today.

For islands situated in Haa Alif, Haa Dhaalu, Noonu, Raa, Baa, and Lhaviyani, ballot boxes are scheduled to be dispatched tomorrow, with deliveries to individual islands set to commence on Friday.

In line with the Election Act, each polling station will receive ballot boxes exceeding the number of registered voters by one percent.

With a total of 284,663 eligible voters participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections across 93 constituencies, over 600 ballot boxes have been allocated to facilitate the electoral process, accommodating 368 candidates vying for parliamentary seats.
