The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has officially opened the application process for International Associations, Societies, and Foreign Individuals interested in observing and monitoring the forthcoming Parliamentary Election scheduled for March 17th, 2024.
ECM has specified that individuals applying to observe the election must be at least 18 years of age, and they are required to refrain from engaging in any form of campaigning for any candidate during the observation period.
ECM disclosed that invitations have been extended to 20 individuals hailing from 10 different countries to participate in the observation of the parliamentary elections. ECM is actively working to provide opportunities for 10 people affiliated with five distinct associations.
Notably, last year, ECM extended invitations to representatives from 15 foreign countries to observe the presidential election.
As the 20th Parliamentary elections approach, scheduled for March 17th, both political parties and individual candidates have announced their participation in the electoral process.
ECM has outlined the timeline for candidate nominations, allowing interested individuals to submit their nominations from the 31st of this month to the 14th of the following month. The official announcement of candidate names is scheduled for the 16th of next month.
