The parliamentary session had slated a no-confidence motion against Eva, affording her an opportunity to present her defense.
Eva took the floor to defend herself, asserting that she foresaw this day when she spoke out against alleged corruption and missteps by the former ruling Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) government. Accusing them of seeking revenge, she lamented that the loss of power was orchestrated in response to her vocal stance against corruption.
Highlighting her dedication to the MDP, Eva recalled her active involvement in party activities even during pregnancy. She stressed that her actions were driven by a commitment to principles rather than personal motives.
Citing the exposure of mistakes made by the current government, Eva expressed conviction in her previous statements about The Democrats. Despite acknowledging the hard work within the 19th parliament, she affirmed her decision not to overlook the errors of the prior government any longer.
Describing the 19th parliament as one of the most hardworking, Eva took pride in reducing members’ expenses, deeming it an achievement during her tenure.
Shortly after her impassioned defense, Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Aslam, confirmed receiving Eva’s resignation letter and formally accepted her resignation.
