The northern island of Kulhudhuffushi City lost electricity this morning, with FENAKA corporation scrambling to solve the issue by nightfall.

In a post on X, the state-owned utility company said the control module of three generators burned down due to a problem with a transformer at 9:15 this morning.

FENAKA, which provides electricity to the atolls, said it expected the problem to be resolved and electricity for the island to be restored by 6pm today.

Kulhudhuffushi, the biggest population hub in the north of Maldives, has been experiencing electricity cuts for over a month. Earlier this month, FENAKA offered a 50% discount for residents of the island for April’s electricity bill.
