The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has issued a reminder to fishermen in the Maldives to register with the government’s national registry by October 1.

In an announcement made last Monday, the Ministry emphasised that to expedite the completion of the National Registry of Fishermen, the fisheries licence renewal process will commence on October 1. During this period, all crew members of licensed vessels must also be registered.

Fishing vessel captains, owners, and operators are advised to ensure their crew members meet the registration deadline.

To assist in this process, the government launched a mobile application, “Keyolhu,” in February, aimed at simplifying registration for fishermen. Additionally, teams from the Ministry are visiting various islands across the country to gather information for the national registry and provide support to fishermen.

According to the Ministry, the data collected will aid in the implementation of policies set by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, allowing for the development of targeted projects in the fisheries sector and ensuring adequate services for fishermen.
