Maldivian Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has departed for Saudi Arabia to participate in a crucial meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers.

Saudi Arabia convened the high-level meeting in Jeddah to address ongoing Israeli actions in Palestine, including Israel’s refusal to comply with the UN Security Council roadmap for peace and reconstruction in Gaza.

Speaking ahead of the summit, Minister Adam confirmed that the Maldives will actively advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people during the sessions. She stated that the Maldivian delegation plans to deliver a statement condemning Israeli military actions and calling on all OIC member states to press for the immediate implementation of the UN Security Council roadmap.

“In our statement, we will strongly condemn the attacks carried out by Israel against Palestine,” Minister Adam said. “We will urge all member countries to push for the implementation of the UN Security Council roadmap for peace in Gaza, which Israel continues to ignore and refuse to enforce.”

Alongside discussions on the Palestinian crisis, the OIC meeting agenda includes procedural matters regarding the appointment of the organisation’s Secretary-General. Minister Adam also noted plans to conduct bilateral discussions with foreign ministers from partner Arab nations on the sidelines of the summit.
