Foreigner Killed in Speedboat Accident Near Alifu Dhaalu Atoll

A Bangladeshi national has died after being struck by a speedboat while fishing for groupers near Alifu Dhaalu Atoll Dhangethi.

Dhangethi Council President, Muaviyath Rasheed, reported that the incident occurred while the individual was fishing in the water. Following the collision, the victim was transported to the local health centre. “The person was dead on arrival,” Rasheed confirmed.

Police have launched an investigation into the speedboat driver, but the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. A source from the island indicated that the victim sustained severe injuries to his neck.

Authorities have arrested the captain of the speedboat, identified only as a Maldivian male. The vessel involved in the accident, which is used to ferry passengers between Malé City and ADh. Maamigili, is currently docked at Dhangethi.

The police continue to investigate the case.
