Foreigner Rescued After Jumping Into Sea From Sinamalé Bridge

A foreign national was rescued late last night after jumping into the sea from the Sinamalé Bridge, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said.

The MNDF said the incident was reported to its Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at around 12:44 am.

Following the report, divers from the Coast Guard Second Squadron, operating under the MNDF Malé Area Command, were deployed to search for the individual.

During the search, divers located the man clinging to one of the bridge’s pillars.

He was brought aboard an MNDF Coast Guard harbour craft and subsequently handed over to the Maldives Police Service.

The MNDF did not disclose any further details regarding the incident.
