Former Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim has been appointed Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto, a ministerial-level position within the President’s Office.

Nazim, who resigned as Health Minister on 14 April, was appointed to the new post last week. The appointment marks his return to the President’s Office, where he previously served as Principal Secretary of Public Policy under the current administration.

He was appointed Health Minister on 30 September 2024 as part of a cabinet reshuffle.

Nazim was among 10 ministers who stepped down following the local council elections held on 6 April. The resignations came after President Dr Mohamed Muizzu requested cabinet members to vacate their positions in an effort to strengthen the government following the polls.

Since the reshuffle, several former ministers have been assigned to other senior roles. Former Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar and former Tourism Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, who also resigned after the elections, have been nominated for diplomatic appointments.

The government has submitted the names of Adam Shareef and Thoriq to Parliament for approval as ambassadors to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, respectively.
