Former MIRA Commissioner General Hassan Zareer Named Finance Minister Following Zameer’s Resignation
The letter of appointment was presented to the new Minister of Finance and Public Entreprises Hassan Zareer at an official ceremony held at the President’s Office this afternoon.
President Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Hassan Zareer as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises following the resignation of Moosa Zameer.
The appointment was made on Monday, with the letter of appointment presented to Zareer during an official ceremony held at the President’s Office.
The appointment comes shortly after government spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef confirmed that Zameer had resigned from the post. However, no reason has been provided for his departure.
When questioned about the resignation, Shareef declined to elaborate, saying the matter should be clarified with the former minister.
Zareer most recently served as Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), a position he was appointed to last year.
According to his profile displayed on the Chartered Accountants of the Maldives, he previously served as Chief Public Accounts Executive at the Public Accounts office and headed the Public Enterprises Monitoring and Evaluation Board at the Ministry of Finance and Treasury.
He has also served on the boards of several state-owned enterprises and listed companies, including Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), State Electric Company (STELCO), Maldives Post Limited (MPL) and Maldives National Oil Company.
Zareer holds a Bachelor of Accounting and a Master of Science in Finance from International Islamic University Malaysia. He is also a Fellow Chartered Management Accountant (FCMA, CGMA) in the United Kingdom and a Certified Practising Accountant in Australia.
No further details have been released regarding the circumstances surrounding Zameer’s resignation. Zareer now assumes responsibility for the Finance Ministry and the Public Enterprises portfolio.
