Four Candidates Run for JP Deputy Leader Position, Election Today

Four candidates are in the running for the vacant position of Deputy Leader within the Jumhooree Party (JP), with the election scheduled for today to determine the successful candidate.
The vacancy arose following the resignation of Iqbal Adam from the role after the conclusion of the second round of the presidential election. Iqbal Adam has since assumed the position of a minister in the President’s Office.
On the 22nd of last month, the party announced a total of 12 vacancies, including the Deputy Leader position.
With the deadline for nominations now closed, the final list of candidates for the Deputy Leader position has been confirmed.
The candidates are as follows:
- Former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Assad Riza
- Advisor to JP Leader Gasim Ibrahim and Former Villimale Constituency Member, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik
- Former State Minister of Transport Ministry and two-term party spokesperson, Ali Solih
- Mohamed Saeed, who represents Gasim Ibrahim on the council
The polling is scheduled to take place at 2 pm today, with voting exclusively among council members.
The existing lineup of Deputy Leaders within the Jumhoory Party (JP) includes former Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula, former Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Dr. Ameen Ibrahim, former Parliamentarian Ali Shah, and former Vice President of JP Ahmed Saud.
