Four Ruling Party Candidates Win Local Council Bi-elections

Candidates from the ruling Progressive National Congress (PNC) won four of the six island council seats contested in the bi-elections held yesterday.

Polls were held across the country yesterday to elect candidates for vacant local island councils in six islands.

Candidates representing the party won seats in HA. Utheemu, HA.Thakandhoo, N. Velidhoo and R. Innamaadhoo.

The PNC candidates who secured victory are:
Ibrahim Sunaan – Haa Alif Utheemu
Adbulla Abdul Razzaq – Noonu Velidhoo
Sameena Mohamed – Haa Alif Thakandhoo
Aishath Samaha – Raa Innamaadhoo

The council member seat in Noonu Landhoo was won by Abdulla Arif, the candidate from Maldives Democratic Party (MDP).

In a surprise win, Mohamed Aathim Ali, The Democrats candidate contesting for the vacant council president seat of Meemu Maduvvaree secured victory.
