Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy officially inaugurated the fourth batch of the National Service Initial Training Program this morning at the Composite Training Centre in Lhaviyani Maafilaafushi, launching a 14-week initiative to build disciplined and skilled youth across the Maldives.
The opening ceremony was attended by special guest Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness Abdulla Rafiu, along with senior military officials, instructors, and recruits.
A total of 352 trainees, comprising 288 males and 64 females representing 125 islands across 20 atolls, are enrolled in this cohort. The participants reported to the training facility on October 13 to begin the program.
In a post on social media platform X, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu extended his best wishes to the recruits, urging them to pursue the program with courage and determination. The President highlighted that the government’s ongoing effort to nurture a responsible generation devoted to Maldivian nationalism will, with God’s grace, establish a solid foundation for shaping the future of the nation’s youth.
Initiated under the directive of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the program forms a core pillar of his broader human capital development agenda outlined in his inaugural address. The initiative seeks to develop responsible, faithful, and physically fit young citizens equipped with a strong work ethic, professional skills, and civic responsibility to contribute productively to the nation.
Over the 14 weeks, participants will undergo a curriculum covering Maldivian nationalism, responsible citizenship, religious studies, leadership, and language proficiency. Physical fitness routines and drill exercises will reinforce discipline and wellness, while practical modules will cover first aid, firefighting, self-defence, campcraft, and an introduction to basic military training.
Graduates who meet all course benchmarks will receive the National Service Initial Training Certificate and a Certificate 3 in Civic Education and Leadership. Participants will also be eligible for specialised certifications, including Community Volunteer Firefighter, Basic First Aid, and Peer Education Training via the “Eku-Ekee” module.
