In recognition of this achievement, a special ceremony was held to mark the completion of the facilitator training programme in B.Eydhafushi. The ceremony was attended by Zifleena Hassan, the State Minister of the Gender Ministry, as well as His Excellency Vice Admiral Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Maldives.
The primary objective of the training programme, organised by the Ministry across the atolls, was to train individuals to conduct awareness sessions on domestic violence and to promote stronger family relationships within the islands. Each atoll underwent a two-day training programme, ensuring comprehensive coverage across all islands.
Participants in these training programmes were provided with information on various aspects of domestic violence, including its definition, causes, and negative impact. Additionally, they were educated on how to identify victims and how best to support them, as well as the services available in Maldives to assist those affected by domestic violence. The training programme also focused on the root causes of family problems, highlighting the detrimental effects and offering strategies to strengthen family bonds.
The Geveshi Gulhun Campaign, launched by the Gender Ministry on 15th July 2020, is dedicated to fostering a society free from domestic violence. The campaign aims to raise community awareness about domestic violence, empower victims by providing them with information, enhance the quality of support services available, and promote attitudes and behaviours that prevent domestic violence.
Numerous activities have been conducted by the ministry as part of this campaign, including the creation of video songs, television and radio drama series, children’s storybook series, billboards, magazines, booklets, and leaflets. The campaign has been funded by the government budget, with additional support provided by the Government of Pakistan.
The successful completion of the facilitator training programme marks an important milestone in the Geveshi Gulhun Campaign, reinforcing the commitment of the Ministry and its partners to create a safe and supportive environment, free from domestic violence, throughout the Maldives.
