The government has announced a special economic forum titled “Addu Business Dialogue” aimed at providing information on commercial and investment opportunities in Addu City.

The forum is scheduled to take place on May 13 and 14 and is being described as the first economic event in the Maldives dedicated specifically to the development and business potential of a particular region.

According to the government, the initiative is intended to engage directly with industry stakeholders, share details on investment opportunities and available incentives, and gather feedback from the business community.

Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said the forum would serve as a platform for entrepreneurs and investors to discuss opportunities available in Addu and encourage wider participation from the private sector.

The dialogue is expected to bring together business owners, investors, policymakers and industry leaders. Several government institutions are also set to participate, including the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ministry of Tourism and Environment, and Ministry of Finance and Planning.

The government highlighted Addu City’s growth potential in sectors such as tourism, fisheries, logistics and technology as key reasons behind the initiative.

In this year’s Presidential Address, President Mohamed Muizzu announced plans to introduce special concessions and incentives for businesses operating in Addu City between 2027 and 2029.

According to the government, the proposed measures are intended to strengthen the small and medium enterprise sector and support efforts to develop Addu as the Maldives’ primary information technology hub.

The administration stated that the initiative is also expected to create employment opportunities and contribute to broader economic growth in Addu Atoll and across the country.
