The Maldives Hajj Corporation Limited has announced its proactive measures to decrease the expenses associated with Hajj trips.

Managing Director of the Hajj Corporation, Mohamed Shakeel, disclosed that the initiative was launched following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s directive to alleviate the financial burden on citizens undertaking the pilgrimage.

A dedicated fund, known as the Hajj Fund, has been established to facilitate this reduction in costs, as confirmed by Shakeel.

The government’s strategy includes leveraging real estate investments to drive down the overall expenses incurred during Hajj journeys. Furthermore, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs has actively engaged in efforts to support the government’s agenda of cost reduction for Hajj pilgrimages.

Presently, the Hajj Corporation offers Hajj transportation services for over MVR 60,000, with a substantial waiting list comprising over 7,000 individuals. To address this backlog, the government has allocated an official quota of 1,000 slots to the Hajj Corporation, intending to streamline services and enhance the overall pilgrim experience.

Dr. Mohammed Shaheem Ali Saeed, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, emphasised that the additional quota, beyond the official allocation, would enable private entities to participate in facilitating Hajj journeys.
