A lagoon near K. Gaafaru has been allocated to International Travel Consultancy, a company owned by Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir and his son Mohamed Jabir.

The allocation of the lagoon is said to be a result of an exchange involving Mathiveri Finolhu, which is located within AA. Mathiveri’s lagoon.

While the Mathiveri Island Council has expressed its desire to include the sandbank within the jurisdiction of the island, it has been acquired by the government for its own purposes, a tourism ministry official confirmed to local media.

The government’s decision to allocate the lagoon to International Travel Consultancy has drawn attention, with some expressing concerns over the transparency and fairness of the allocation process.

However, no official statement or response has been issued by Jabir or his company regarding the allocation.

Jabir joined current ruling party MDP late last month, and he is participating President Solih’s re-election campaign.
