Gov’t Attributes Rise in Expenditures to Public Works and State-Owned Initiatives

Finance Minister Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq attributed the rise in administrative expenditures to financial assistance for public works and state-owned enterprise initiatives during the inaugural ceremony of the Workshop on Strengthening the General Works of Administrative Areas.

In his address, Minister Shafeeq emphasised the essential role of public workers in fostering a comfortable and peaceful environment for society. He highlighted the significance of public works in ensuring adequate housing facilities and a healthy environment, aligning with the pledges made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Minister Shafeeq also disclosed the substantial costs involved in enhancing public works and ongoing projects supported by government companies. He explained that the allocation of projects to state-owned enterprises, without strict adherence to budget constraints and profitability considerations, has significantly contributed to the rise in expenditures. 

He urged these enterprises to adopt cost-effective measures and increase efficiency to alleviate the financial burden on the government.

Additionally, Minister Shafeeq stressed the importance of integrity and diligence in all activities impacting the rights of the people, societal welfare, and government interests. He reiterated the necessity of strengthening public works to ensure the continued well-being of the community.
