Earlier this month, the department rolled out the service in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll. In April, the government extended ID card and passport issuance services to Malaysia, as part of its broader plan to offer ID card services in countries with significant Maldivian migrant communities, including Sri Lanka, India, and the United Kingdom.
