Gov’t Launches Fire Safety Training for Seniors at Senior Centre

The Ministry of Social and Family Development has organised a fire safety training programme targeted at senior citizens at the Senior Centre. 

Conducted by trainers from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue Training School, the initiative aimed to educate participants on crucial fire prevention measures and emergency response techniques.

The training covered essential topics such as home fire prevention, safe handling of gas appliances including detecting leaks, and effective fire extinguishing methods. Participants expressed appreciation for the specialised training, highlighting its role in enhancing safety measures for the elderly and providing valuable insights into fire safety practices.

A total of 32 individuals took part in the programme, which also featured team-building activities and a picnic to foster community engagement. The initiative received support from the Maldives Police Service, underscoring collaborative efforts in promoting community safety.

According to official sources, this training programme is part of a broader series of activities conducted at the Senior Centre, with approximately 750 individuals benefiting from various engagements over the past three months.
