Gov’t Opens Temporary Parking for Unregistered Vehicles

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced a new initiative to address the issue of illegally unregistered vehicles in the Greater Male’ Region.

According to the statement, vehicles operating or parked on main roads without proper registration, as mandated by the Road Traffic Act, or those registered outside Zone A, will be prohibited from operating in this area. In response, temporary parking arrangements have been made at Lot No. 452 in Hulhumale’.

The ministry has called on vehicle owners in Male’ City who are driving or owning vehicles illegally to relocate their vehicles to the designated parking area promptly. Vehicle owners are encouraged to use this opportunity to complete the necessary registration procedures in accordance with the Road Traffic Act. The ministry has warned that non-compliance will lead to prosecution under the Act.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce illegal driving in Male’ City and Hulhumale’ and to alleviate congestion and traffic problems in the region. A vacant plot adjacent to the MACL flats in Hulhumale’ Phase II has been allocated for this purpose. Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, emphasised that this measure is not intended to permit illegal vehicles to continue operating in Male’. 

The ministry aims to resolve vehicle-related issues and enforce regulatory compliance. Currently, over 1,200 four-wheelers are reported to be illegally registered in Male’.
