Gov’t-Owned Taxi Line Completes Over 13,000 Trips Since Launch

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company has announced that more than 13,000 trips have been completed through the Male’ Taxi Line since the service was launched.
The Male’ Taxi Line was introduced under a decree issued by Mohamed Muizzu to address the shortage of taxis in the Greater Male’ region.

According to MTCC, a total of 13,073 trips were completed between 18 April and 9 May. This included 9,395 trips within Malé, 429 trips to Velana International Airport, 1,966 trips to Hulhumalé Phase One and 1,283 trips to Hulhumalé Phase Two.
MTCC said the service has so far been used by 9,550 customers. The taxi fleet consists of fully electric vehicles in three different sizes. The company imported 150 electric vehicles manufactured by Changan Automobile Group to support the service.
The Male’ Taxi Line was officially inaugurated by President Muizzu during a ceremony held at Central Park on 2 April.
MTCC stated that rides can be booked through the company’s website or via the hotline number 1655. Fare prices are being charged according to rates set by the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade.
