Gov’t Signs Agreement with Sri Lankan Hospital to Train Medical Graduates

The Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare has signed an agreement with Sri Lanka’s Suwasevana Hospital to provide clinical training opportunities for Maldivian medical graduates.
State Minister Khadheeja Abdul Samad Abdulla signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the Health Ministry, while Suwasevana Hospital Director signed on behalf of the hospital at a ceremony held at the Roashanee Building.

Health Minister Geela Ali attended the ceremony, alongside senior Health Ministry officials, representatives of Suwasevana Hospital and senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Geela said the agreement would help address the healthcare sector’s need for trained doctors by providing Maldivian medical graduates with opportunities to gain clinical training and practical experience.
“This partnership is an important partnership. As a result, opportunities for Maldivian medical graduates to acquire specialised clinical training and practical experience will expand, paving the way to enhance their capabilities,” Geela said.
Under the agreement, Suwasevana Hospital will provide one-year clinical internships for Maldivian MBBS graduates, with arrangements made to accommodate 20 graduates each year.
The partnership aims to strengthen cooperation between the two parties and support the development of qualified medical professionals through a structured clinical internship programme.
