Fishermen raised issues about insufficient fuel supplies and delays in payments, stressing the difficulties they face in securing fuel on credit from the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) and Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM). They also urged for the development of reef fishing in the area.
In response, Minister Shiyam acknowledged the challenges and confirmed that discussions are underway with relevant stakeholders to resolve the fuel supply issues. He assured the fishermen that the government would support the development of reef fishing in partnership with MIFCO.
Additionally, the minister provided updates on the Refrigerated Seawater (RSW) system and the fishermen’s register, aimed at improving the fishing sector.
