President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that a portion of the partially constructed city hotel building in Hulhumale, initially developed by the State Trading Organisation (STO), will be allocated to establish a media village.

This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to support the media. Speaking at the official Independence Day celebration at the Social Centre in the capital city on Friday evening, Muizzu emphasised his administration’s dedication to transparency and close cooperation with the media. He reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling promises made to the media sector.

The Cabinet has decided to lease some floors of the unfinished hotel building in Hulhumale to run media offices. Special studios and production facilities for television will also be established on several floors of the building.

The building has now been taken over by the government. Some floors will be reserved for setting up a media village, with each agency given space to run their offices at a very low cost. Quality production studios will be set up.

Muizzu highlighted that the Media Village would provide unprecedented opportunities for the media, with a completion target set within a year. He also announced that a specific percentage of the budget would be allocated to the media starting next year, with the policy to be published transparently in the Gazette.

Muizzu concluded by urging the media to operate responsibly, reflecting the support and opportunities being provided.
