Gov’t to Include Nationalism as a Separate Subject in School Syllabus

The cabinet announced its decision to incorporate nationalism as a distinct subject in the school syllabus, set to be implemented from the upcoming academic year.

Public Policy Secretary Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, speaking during a press conference yesterday held at the President’s Office to outline the outcomes of the cabinet meeting, disclosed the decision, citing it as a fulfillment of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s electoral commitment.

Addressing the media, Nizam highlighted that the Education Ministry had presented a proposal advocating the inclusion of nationalism as a separate subject. He emphasized that the initiative aimed to rejuvenate a sense of nationalism and cultivate a generation well-versed in its attributes.

Nizam further stated that efforts were underway to incorporate nationalism into the national syllabus starting from the next academic year, with discussions set to take place with the President’s Office on related matters.

As per the revised academic calendar released by the Education Ministry, the current academic year’s second term is scheduled to conclude on April 30th. The subsequent academic year is slated to commence on May 26th of this year and will conclude in February 2025.
